The Lies About Lying

I hear a lot of people waxing nostalgic abort the relative truthfulness of previous Republican presidents or candidates. Let’s not do that. Let’s not normalise the inveterate lying of their party by grading on a Trump curve. I know they like to point to Obama’s “keep your doctor” statement as a lie (yes, he should have said, “you can keep your doctor as long as he’s not part of a sh*tty network”), but I want everyone to remember how Mitt Romney would have said the same line:

9 AM: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”
11:30 AM: “Of course, under my plan, you won’t be able to keep your doctor under all circumstances.”
2:15 PM: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, and I never said anything else.”
4 PM: “I never said anything about doctors. Ever.”
6:20 PM: “That statement is taken totally out of context, even if you have the entire interview on tape.”
9 PM: “This isn’t even my health care plan.”
